I’ve grown quite ashamed of some publishers/game developers nowadays when it comes to downloadable content. It’s understandable that when a game comes out, new content comes out to further expand the interest for the game. However, a lot of companies are taking this into their heads now and ripping off a lot of gamers around the world.

The most recent is the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 “Stimulus Package” that came out. This thing includes 5 maps, 3 of which are new and 2 of which are remakes of older maps.

As a big fan of MW2 I do not mind that the developers create new and exciting maps or rebuild old favorites. However, when it costs 1,200 MS points ($15) dollars. That’s when I draw the line. The game itself costs $50-60 bucks brand new. If you don’t think this is a big ripoff, then you’re either in denial or a big fanboy/girl.

I for one respect developers for what they do and the hard work they put into games, but I sure as hell won’t pay $15 bucks for something that should be a lot cheaper or possibly even free. If this is how Activision / Infinity Ward plans to pay back it’s gamers for making it one of the highest selling games of all time, then I don’t plan to support them in the future.

If gamers don’t start standing up against stupid PR stunts like this, they will continue to overcharge people. Boycott this DLC!

Gamespot has done some performance test on various gaming machines ranging in specs. At the highest end machine, it was able to do about 141 FPS while the lowest was a meager 21 FPS. If you are running CoD: MW2 on a PC, this is a pretty good indicator of where your system may level off.

We put together a few sample systems to show how the game performed using real-world computers. Our slowest machine and the absolute minimum required to run the game, a 3.2GHz Pentium 4 paired with a GeForce 6800, struggled to churn out a barely playable experience at rock-bottom image-quality settings. Our mid-range system, outfitted with a 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo and a Radeon HD 5770, pumped out a more than playable experience with every setting on and a resolution of 1920×1200. The behemoth system, a Core i7-960 paired with the Radeon HD 5970, literally doubled the performance of our midrange sytem. The behemoth is entirely overkill for Modern Warfare 2.
